Wagering Requirements
Wagering requirements specify the sum you have to play to turn free spin winnings into fiat currency you can actually withdraw.
Online casinos calculate this amount by simply applying a 10x to 70x multiplier to your free spin winnings. And the higher the multiplier, the more difficult it becomes to wager the winnings and cash out real money.
Let’s look at an example to explain this in more detail:
Limits On Winnings
Winnings derived from free bonuses are always subject to win caps. It’s a way for casinos to ensure their free promotions don’t cost them too much money. Win caps can vary significantly from one casino to another and tend to fall between $5 and $200.
Capped Bet Size
Since casino wins are multiples of your initial bet, a casino can efficiently control risk by capping your bet size. Hence, many casinos don’t allow bets exceeding $5 per spin or hand when you’re playing with bonus funds.
Game Eligibility
When wagering your free spin winnings, you must ensure you’re playing casino games that are eligible for bonus play. Casinos tend to exclude quite a few games, especially ones with volatility and RTP percentages. This is yet another way of regulating players’ chances of hitting big wins with bonuses.
Picking Games That Affect Your Wagering Requirement
Games don’t equally affect your wagering requirement – and the differences lie in their game weighting percentages.
When you play a game that’s 100% weighted, a sum equivalent to your bet is subtracted from the wagering requirement with each spin. So if you play a $2 spin, you’ll see your pending wagering requirement decrease by $2 – it’s as simple as that.
When playing a 10%-weighted casino game, however, only a fraction of your bet counts toward the wagering requirement. If you stake $20, your wagering requirement is only reduced by $2. So to turn your bonus funds into real money, you must turnover 10 times as much.
The crucial thing to know is that slot games are typically 100%-weighted. Other games, such as live casino games and table games, have weighting percentages ranging from 0% to 20%.
